Training a police dog is just like raising a child, with love and patience
"Training a police dog is just like raising a child. You must have love and patience. Wukong is my 'child'." Xiao Jianwei, a policeman from the Fifth Brigade of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Changsha Public Security Bureau, said this.
37-year-old Xiao Jianwei, a member of the Communist Party of China, is a policeman of the Fifth Brigade of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Changsha City Public Security Bureau, Hunan Province. He graduated from the Department of Police Dog Technology of China Criminal Police Academy in 2008 and has been engaged in the training and use of police dogs in the Criminal Investigation Detachment. He was selected as the first batch of "National Police Dog Technology Practical Talent Pool" by the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, and was an intermediate police dog technology instructor in Hunan Province.
Police dog technology is a special police work. Police officers with dogs are usually far away from the bustling city. They are with dogs all day long, sweaty on sunny days and muddy on rainy days. To do this job well, you need to be able to endure loneliness and keep poverty. , need more unknown hardships and sweat, need to face more dangers.
"I like dogs since I was a child. When I chose a major in school, I chose the police dog technology major." Xiao Jianwei said that after graduation, he had the opportunity to work in other positions, but for this original intention, he still chose to be a policeman with dogs.

In the impression of ordinary people, the criminal police with police dogs to search for drugs and explosives should be serious and unsmiling, but Xiao Jianwei is not. He plays "games" with Wukong in a police uniform, and looks more like the big brother next door.
"Wukong is a springer spaniel. It has clear eyes, a compact body, robustness, flexibility and human nature. Apart from being a little sensitive, its police qualities such as desire for title, reflection, and comprehension are all top-notch." Xiao Jianwei In recollection, it was originally at the Nanjing Police Dog Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security. Wukong, who was only more than two months old, was nested among his brothers and sisters, and Xiao Jianwei recognized each other at a glance.
Wukong, who just came to Changsha, is like a child, he doesn't understand anything and needs to be patiently accompanied. Xiao Jianwei became Wukong's "father". In addition to his daily training, he also worked part-time as a "shit shoveling officer", responsible for Wukong's eating, drinking and laughing. The training in the early stage should be accompanied almost day and night. It should be taken to different places during the day and at night to allow it to adapt to different environments. The time to spend with it is more than that of family members.
Wukong's cleverness lies in his strong perception. Like young children, puppies are playful by nature and are full of curiosity about the outside world. At the age of play, it is difficult to devote to the boring training every day, but as long as Wukong guides him a little and decomposes the training movements into the game links, he will have a lot of fun and enjoyment, and his progress is better than the same batch of training. The dog is much faster, and the training passwords and gestures can be learned after a few teachings.
Xiao Jianwei unearthed Wukong's specialties, added training to Wukong, and searched for physical evidence. Because of his strong comprehension, Wukong quickly became the leader of the same batch of dog breeds.
In the later work, Wukong really lived up to his expectations and won a lot of achievements and honors. In 2017, in the first police dog competition in Hunan Province, Wukong, a newly trained bloodstain search dog over one year old, won the first place in the province for his search operation, search endurance, smell perception ability and stability.
The goal is to serve the actual combat
It takes more than half a year of hard training to train a qualified police dog, and it takes more hardship and sweat to train an excellent police dog. Xiao Jianwei is willing to work hard on it and will work hard on it. Not only has he won many honors for the provincial and municipal police dog technical teams in the national and provincial police dog competitions, but he has also been pragmatic and pragmatic in the business, and has worked hard to train many excellent police dogs for actual combat. , give full play to the unique and irreplaceable role of police dog technology.
In August 2016, a vicious case occurred in Hongjiang, Huaihua. After the criminal suspect Yi killed two people, he fled into the Xuefeng Mountains with the murder weapon. That night, Xiao Jianwei was ordered to follow the wind with a police dog to Hongjiang, Huaihua, to help solve the case. Xuefeng Mountain has complex terrain, lush forests, and many abandoned mines. It is not easy to arrest suspects in the mountains and forests. Xiao Jianwei will put the evidence with the suspect's scent next to Chasing Wind and let it smell. When Chasing Wind gets excited, follow it to carefully search for possible suspects.

hiding place.
At 10 o'clock on the evening of the 11th, in the courtyard of the TV broadcast base on the top of Xuefeng Mountain in Hongjiang City, Chasing Feng suddenly became excited and ran quickly towards the TV Tower Hotel. In the dark night, a thin figure was running wildly. "Don't move!" Xiao Jianwei shouted, and the two policemen rushed up and pushed the man to the ground. After identification, the thin man turned out to be the suspect Yi Mou. So far, after three days and two nights of investigation, the murder case was successfully solved.
The police dog chasing the wind has shown great power in case detection, but how is it trained? There is a story behind this.
The wind chaser belongs to the bloodhound dog breed, which is internationally recognized as the dog breed with the most developed sense of smell. However, due to its breed characteristics, it is difficult to train a qualified working dog according to traditional training methods and concepts. Earlier, there was no precedent for the training and use of bloodhounds in China, and no ready-made theories could be used for reference.
In order to improve the use of police dogs at the scene of criminal cases, in 2010, Xiao Jianwei introduced two bloodhounds after conducting a theoretical feasibility analysis and seeking support from his superiors, and invited colleagues from the unit to conduct exploratory training together. He spent the whole day with the hound, and after more than two years of constant exploration, he finally made a breakthrough.
In 2012, on the basis of this research, the unit applied for the scientific research project of the Ministry of Public Security "Research on Human Odor Tracking Technology for Bloodhound Dogs". In 2015, it obtained the registration certificate of scientific and technological achievements. The project has made a feasibility demonstration and paved the way for the Chinese police to introduce bloodhounds to improve the tracking ability of police dogs with practical results. At present, the police in many parts of the country have introduced bloodhounds to improve the tracking level of police dogs.
