Are you doing the right thing about cat vaccinations?

Compared with dogs, excrement shovelers don't pay much attention to cat vaccination. For example, some people think that "my cat never goes out and has no habit of biting people, so there is no need for rabies vaccination", this kind of concept is wrong.

Cats need to go out more or less several times in their lives, such as neutering, seeing a doctor, and so on. In addition, when we go out and return home, our clothes, shoes, shopping bags, etc. may be stuck with pathogens, and cats will be infected after contact. Especially in families where cats and dogs are mixed, once the two young ancestors fight and the dog bites the cat, it is very likely that some viruses will be transmitted to it.

  1. Types of vaccines

Vaccinations for cats are mainly divided into core vaccines and non-core vaccines. Core vaccines are mandatory and are crucial to the health of cats, mainly including cat triple vaccines and rabies vaccines.

Note that the cat triple combination does not mean that three injections are required, but it can prevent three kinds of diseases, mainly resisting the three viruses of cat distemper, cat nasal branch, and cat caliciform. The rabies vaccine is against the rabies virus.

  1. The cycle of inoculation

Cat Triple: Cats are injected with three injections at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks respectively. Note that there should be an interval of three weeks after the first injection, and then the second injection.

Rabies vaccine: After receiving three injections of vaccine, then inject rabies vaccine, and then strengthen it once a year.

  1. Precautions
  1. The cat is in an unhealthy state and must not be vaccinated. For example, poor appetite, diarrhea and vomiting, urinary tract problems, excessive tears and nasal discharge, or recovering from a serious illness, or during pregnancy, these conditions cannot be injected.

  2. The cats who have just arrived at the new home need to be observed for 7-10 days. Premature injection will easily affect the immune effect.

  1. There should be an interval of 2-3 days after deworming; if you have been in contact with a sick cat in the past 15 days, don't be too serious.

  2. For adult cats of unknown origin, the hidden dangers of major infectious diseases (such as feline leukemia and feline AIDS) need to be ruled out, and the body should be healthy before being vaccinated.

  3. If the hairy child has a black chin and mild gum inflammation, it will not affect the child, but follow the doctor's advice.

  1. Vaccination side effects

It is normal for cats to experience lethargy, loss of appetite, and diarrhea after being vaccinated. They will recover within 2-3 days, and they can be properly fed with probiotics. However, if there are serious reactions such as dyspnea, low-grade fever, and pale/sag gums, you need to ask a doctor for desensitization.

The better the surrounding environment, the better the immune effect. Therefore, after the vaccination, the shit-shoveling officer should reduce the stimulation to the cat within 1 week, eat the original food, and do not change the food or increase the amount. You can't take a bath, cut your nails, wash your ears, let alone let it exercise vigorously.

  1. Vaccine brand and price

Many veterinary clinics and pet hospitals use Zoetis’s Miaosanduo brand vaccine, which is the only cat-specific veterinary drug approved for import in China, but it does not contain rabies vaccine. Therefore, it is recommended to take the imported Miaosanduo vaccine + Rubik rabies vaccine. However, most of the domestic vaccines are cat duplexes, which mainly prevent feline distemper and rabies, and have no effect on the onset of tracheitis in cats.

Generally, a triple injection for cats costs around 100-120 yuan, and for rabies costs around 60 yuan. There will be differences in different regions and hospitals. After a course of treatment, the total cost of antibody test/cat triple + rabies is about 300-500.

  1. Is the vaccine 100% effective in preventing disease?

Vaccination does not guarantee that you will not get sick 100%, it just allows the cat to produce antibodies and enhance immunity to the virus. In the face of the same virus, cats who have been vaccinated will have stronger resistance and are less likely to get sick than those who have not been vaccinated.

So, is it necessary to vaccinate once a year? Over-injection is not recommended, it can be replaced by antibody test, and if there is no antibody, then re-injection can be done.
